Word from our suppliers is that wholesale ammo prices of all calibers is going up by 20% or more on May 1st and for the foreseeable future. And, certain rounds like .223 and .38spec are already getting scarce at any price. Unfortunately, SAO must pass the increase on to you, just like sales tax. Why is this happening? Manufacturers cannot keep up with the demand from shooters afraid that their Second Amendment rights will be trampled in a possible second Obama administration – everyone is stocking up. Plus, there has been a dramatic increase in Americans buying guns for personal protection and concealed carry. All those guns need bullets and the manufacturers are simply behind the curve. So, if you’ve been thinking about buying ammo in bulk, now is the time to do it. Ammo, like gold, will hold it’s value and doesn’t go bad if stored properly. If you’re not a Gold Member yet and shoot more than twice a month, you should consider joining now. One of the benefits is a 20% discount on bulk ammo purchases of 500 rounds and 25% off purchases of 1000 rounds or more. That will help soften the blow of the upcoming [...]

The shrimping season ceremonially kicks off on Thursday evening, May 3rd, with the Isle of 8 Flags Shrimp Festival Parade in Fernandina (keep your eye out for the SAO float). Because of the warm winter, local shrimp are already being netted and early reports indicate they are plentiful. However, while the shrimp supply is predicted to by plentiful, the same can’t be said for guns and ammo this year. It feels like 2007-2008 all over again. As many of you may recall, as soon as Barak H. Obama secured the Democratic nomination for President, it became very hard for gun shops to keep certain guns and ammo in stock. Manufacturers simply could not keep up with the demand from buyers fearing that their Second Amendment rights would be limited by executive fiat from a leftist president. Well, it’s happening again. But, this time it’s worse because demand for personal protection firearms has grown dramaticlly over the past few years. And, we can only imagine what an unfettered second-term President Obama would do to curtail our God-given and Constitutionally codified right to keep and bear arms for self defense. Some manufacturers, including Smith and Wesson and Ruger, are not even taking [...]

By all accounts, the first indoor SEPSA match held this past Tuesday night, March 13th, at our range in Yulee was a big success. Lots of fun was had by 19 shooters and we all learned a lot about staging an event like this. We shot three challenging stages including shooting around a barrier, strong hand only shooting while kneeling, a steel plate target and shooting through windows. Each stage included a mandatory magazine change. Twelve of the shooters stayed late to shoot all three stages in sequence, representing a fourth stage. Since this was a non-sanctioned SEPSA shoot, the scoring was not typical. The shooter was timed for each stage as usual but, instead of scoring points based on shot location, time was added for misses and shots landing outside the A areas. Congratulations to Michael MacDonald who won the match with a comfortable margin. Here are the combined stage scores in seconds… Michael MacDonald 53.48 Bruce Wells 66.12 Brian Bigelow 68.42 Josh Courchene 69.6 J.C. Ladue 73.82 Nathan Dutton 85.63 Keith Fosley 85.84 Ben Powell 91.47 Dusty Chapman 91.85 Bruce Vanlandingham 96.92 Mike Ward 100.47 David Gaston 107.25 Steve Bunch 109.4 Adam Mendoza 116.84 Christopher Zambesi 130.75 Robert [...]

As many of you know, gun sales are continuing to break historical records. We’re happy to report that trend is proving true here in our little shop in Yulee thanks to loyal customers like you. From November 2011 through Jan 2012, SAO’s revenue is up a whopping 40% over the same period the prior year. Thank you all for your support! Why is this happening? Many reasons, no doubt. Forbes recently published an article exploring this phenomenon. A couple of excerpts: “This $4.1 billion industry “has had nineteen months of growth in an otherwise anemic economy…Back in 2009 gun manufacturers labeled President Barack Obama as the “best gun salesman of all time…However, there is a lot more to it than a president scaring the public… Fun, new action-shooting sports, such as 3-gun and sporting clays, are also bringing in a lot of new shooters, especially women [and] popular shows, such as The History Channel’s Top Shots, have helped to showcase how much fun shooting can be…[O]ther factors include the fact that the number of hunters has actually risen in a number of states. Then you have returning servicemen and women who are staying with the shooting sports. [I]n 1959 some [...]
